Architecture and Urban Sustainability Rooted in Place: Exploring How Design Choices Shape Communities

Fernando Sordo Madaleno participated in Rooted in Place: Exploring How Design Choices Shape Communities, a roundtable hosted by the London School of Economics’ Cañada Blanch Centre in collaboration with Instituto Cervantes London. The event brought together architects and researchers to discuss how regional traditions, materials and social contexts influence architectural practice across different scales.

The conversation included Ricky Burdett (Director of LSE Cities), Magdalena Filipek of Arup and Gloria Pérez of the Instituto Torroja, and was chaired by Andrés Rodríguez-Pose. Together they explored questions around how design can respond to local identity, how architectural decisions shape the communities they serve, and how practices can balance regional specificity with the global challenges facing cities today.
