Los Flamingos
Set within the Costa Brava landscape of Los Flamingos in Marbella, four homes form a masterplan shaped by a mountain-side context. Resting on dramatic forty-degree slopes under the warmth of the sun, residences gather around a central arrival point, radiating from a natural plateau on the mountain face.
Rather than treating homes as objects inserted into the land, the project is an architecture of dialogue—residences do not impose but rest lightly on the site, orientating as a response to its conditions. Accentuating the mountainous topography, they follow a vertical offset of nine metres, creating a steep virtual mass and using the site’s gradient as a spatial advantage. Their structural slabs become the primary architectural language—the horizontal strata creating gentle rhythm upwards. The homes are built in local materials and from below appear to emerge from the mountain’s slope. In doing so they raise the memory of the land, creating a sense of belonging through clear difference and deference to the mountain.
Internally, layouts follow the terrain’s descent. Living, dining, and kitchen spaces are positioned to enjoy the widest vistas, aligning with ocean view corridors. These spaces extend into terraces, outdoor kitchens, and shaded dining areas, supporting Mediterranean traditions of outdoor living. Private zones ae positioned deeper into the plans, holding main and secondary bedrooms with wraparound terraces. Flexible rooms—family lounges, cinemas, and adaptable guest spaces—respond to the project’s dual ambition of serving both second-home living and long-term residency. Wellness spaces, including gyms, spas, and pools, are positioned at lower levels, engaging directly with the landscape.
By sustaining respectful dialogue within its natural context, the Flamingos masterplan proposes a new form of residential architecture—a group of homes that are inseparable from their geological context, becoming a link between what exists and what is yet to come.
